Atritor Depackaging Unit
We have recently installed a depackaging unit at our Helmdon Compost site in Northamptonshire. The Atritor embodies state of the art technology which enables us to remove the biodegradable contents from packaging. The biodegradable material is collected and then transferred to the composting pad for mixing with the green waste and processing into compost. The packaging is conveyed into a skip which can then be recycled wherever possible. Only packaging that cannot be recycled will be sent to landfill. Processing in this way greatly reduces material sent to land fill, resulting in reduced landfill costs, and also enables manufacturers and producers to promote their green credentials as their waste is composted. This is a more environmentally friendly and cheaper alternative to landfill for goods that would normally not be reprocessed. It is an ideal disposal route for out of date stock, end of line goods, goods unsuitable for human consumption or goods with packaging errors or defects.
The site is equipped with loaders with fork attachments to handle pallets on curtain sided vehicles. Loose packaged waste can also be delivered to site in skips, RoRo’s , FEL’s and REL’s.
