Environmental, Social and Governance Considerations

At Material Change, we take Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) obligations seriously and they are our guiding principles in all that we do.  We participate in GRESB which measures our ESG credentials on an annual basis and requires us to monitor our performance against ESG targets we set ourselves.

We would like to share with you information on our ESG performance in our latest GRESB results 2024:

  1. Our AD sites produced 291,853 MWh of green energy, which is sent to the national rid or reused at our sites.
  2. The greenhouse gas emissions avoided by our AD operations were 62,443 tCO2e.
  3. We processed 118,554 tonnes of waste.  All waste was reused to make PAS100 compliant compost or fed into the AD plants, other than 242 tonnes of contamination which was sent to landfill.  This equals to a recycling rate of over 99%.
  4. All water runoff at our AD sites is recirculated into our AD plants.
  5. We maintained our ISO9001 and 14001 accreditations and also added Bay Farm and Euston AD plants to our ISO9001 scheme – meaning the CO2 produced at the site is quality controlled and ISO9001 certified.
  6. We have continued to maintain a good Health and Safety record with only one RIDDOR reportable incident in the last 5 years.
  7. We had four lost time injuries in the year from a total 89,764 working hours.
  8. Near Miss reporting continued to support our incident reduction management scheme, with staff displaying an excellent understanding in the importance of near miss reporting to prevent accidents and incidents.  Our H&S manger continues to work across all of our sites to promote good practices and provide new ways to increase safety awareness.
  9. We have a monthly health and safety award to recognise staff contribution to health and safety.
  10. Our Health and Safety committee meet monthly to evaluate incidents and to monitor for H&S trends.
  11. Our GRESB score was 89% showing that we continue to maintain high standards for sustainability and ethical practices.
