Helmdon Compost Give-away
April 24, 2023
On Saturday 8th April, Helmdon compost site in Northamptonshire held their annual Compost Giveaway.
It was a pleasant sunny day and around 50 vehicles from the local area turned up to help themselves to Free Compost and solid Digestate.
Our Compost at Helmdon is screened at 10mm and is PAS:100 certified. PAS:100 is the certification for green waste compost and ensures that your compost has gone through the correct quality procedures, and is safe for you to use on your garden. PAS:100 is the industry standard certification for compost, created by The British Composting Association.
PAS stands for ‘Publicly Available Specification’
PAS:100, Publicly Available Specification for Composted Materials, is a widely recognised standard within the organics recycling sector. It contributes to the concept of the circular economy as the base document for the end of waste criteria for compost.

Solid Digestate:
The Solid Digestate is a rich organic matter that has not been fully degraded – it is fibrous and consists of structural plant matter including Lignin and Cellulous and contain all nutrients and micronutrients necessary for modern farming, including Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium. This can be used as substrate in compost, providing sources or carbon and nutrients. This is a fantastic fertiliser and can be used on field and the garden. Because it is packed with organic matter and nutrients, it will build and enliven soil – especially useful in a no-dig garden.
We were praised by the public on both the material and the site and how ‘discreet’ it was.
