Young Farmers Visit Our Helmdon Site – A Glimpse into Green Energy and Sustainable Agriculture

On Wednesday, 2nd April, we had the pleasure of welcoming a group of enthusiastic young farmers to our Helmdon site. The visit offered them a unique insight into our Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Plant and Green Waste Composting Facility – both key components in our mission toward a more sustainable future.

Our AD plant plays a vital role in renewable energy production, supplying gas directly to the grid. During the tour, the young farmers saw the entire journey—from feeding the digester with silage (mainly maize, rye, and grass) to witnessing how this material is transformed through the anaerobic digestion process. The outcome? Biogas and nutrient-rich digestate.

The digestate is a valuable by product that returns to the land as a natural fertiliser, completing the cycle and supporting the next growing season—year after year.

The group also explored our Green Waste Composting facility, which processes all kerbside brown bin collections from the local council, converting green waste into high-quality compost.

A highlight of the day was climbing to the top of the digester, where the young farmers got a real sense of the scale of our operation—an experience that truly brought the technology to life.

We’re proud to share our work with the next generation of farmers and to demonstrate how innovation, sustainability, and agriculture go hand in hand.

A special thanks goes to Phil, Guil and Ben for showing the young farmers round the site and to Turnham Brothers farmers, for a live demonstration as to how the Silage is compacted and stored in clamp.

A great day was had by all.
